CVLT Nation is stoked to announce that Sonic Cathedrals Vol. LXXXIX Curated by DOCTORSHOPPER is live today!
We wanted to make a tape that encompassed our influences directly and indirectly. Songs arranged in a way that captured the ebb and flow of our days, as we all struggle to maintain some semblance of emotional and financial stability so that we can keep our burgeoning collective of music and art projects going. I’ve always said the easiest part of being in this band has always been writing and playing music together. It every other aspect from the recession induced financial strains, to health and family problems, the crumbling Los Angeles infrastructure and so on that chip away out our spirits each day. By the time we meet up I feel drained, anxious, demoralized, and crippled by chronic pain. When that first song starts and the room begins to shake, I can feel everyone forcing that negative energy into a maelstrom of dissonance, playing as if it’s the last time it’ll ever happen. I get swept up in that forced march and when it’s over I feel that sense of catharsis I desperately need. It propels me in all other aspects of my life, numbs the pain just enough to keep going. These are the songs that get us through the days and drive us to do what we can to keep ourselves so we can keep chasing that feeling.
