16. 49:53-53:04: DJ Screw (UGK) – Pregnant Pussy
17. 53:05-56:29: Macronympha – Fucking My Nurse in the Dark (Excerpt II)
18. 56:30-60:02: R. Kelly – Love Is
1. 0:00-4.22: Machismo – Purity of Perversion
I can not think of a better way to begin a mix than abrasive Power Electronics with two men fucking as the majority of the source material. The Machismo/Hate Basement 2012 Tour was something that may never be topped. Machismo are keeping Chicago right (wrong).
2. 4:23-7:21: Knelt Rote – Succumb
Knelt Rote’s Trespress (2012) has been punishing me consistently. Morbid Immolation riffs played in an almost bestial style by noise/grind guys.
3. 7:22-8:18: Masonna – Ejaculation Generator (Track)
God of noise.
4. 8:19 -11:10: Water Torture – Death to All the World / Erased / Grey
Three tracks from their first demo/split. Water Torture are one of the best in the Powerviolence/Grind game currently. They have been steadily releasing great material. No hope.
5. 11:11-15:05: Rectal Hygienics – Bad Behavior
Rectal Hygienics are the lowest experiences in life sonified. They manage to present a fresh yet disgusting take on a basic punk formula. Meet you in bathroom.
6. 15:06-19:55: Lovelock – Love Reaction
Lovelock AKA Steve Moore of Zombi put out an amazing album in 2012 of lush synths playing pop songs that are reminiscent of 1980s action films.
7. 19:66-24:06: Socially Retarded – Split w/ Daisycutter
Socially Retarded were a Powerviolence band in Chicago a few years back. Ultimately the band broke up and went on to Machismo, Rectal Hygienics, Consent and others. RIP.
8. 24:07-30:23: Deterge – Always Around
Deterge is the Power Electronics/Harsh Noise/Industrial project of Jim Haras. This toilet has been performing some of my favorite sets in the past year along with releasing great material himself or through his Fusty Cunt label.
9. 30:24-36:33: Conan – Hawk as a Weapon
This is the opening track from one of the few Doom releases I really enjoyed last year. I am excited to see them every night on the Bongripper tour with them in April.
10. 36:34-39:34: Magia Nuda – Paura
Magia Nuda is a Chicago Power Electronics project from Mike Golem of Winters in Osaka and Paucities. The looped hits create an unsettling atmosphere that begins to suffocate under the dense walls of noise and vocals.
11. 39-:35-40:41: Sick/Tired – Throwing Trash
Sick/Tired really came into their own lately with the addition of Adam Jennings (Winters in Osaka, Paucities, Urine Cop) on vocals. This unmastered track is from their upcoming LP this year. Never enough blasts.
12. 40:42-41:31: Sea of Shit – Worried Sick
Sea of Shit has been leading the Powerviolence/Hardcore scene in Chicago for the past few years. Their material and performances have only been better with age.
13. 41:32-44:30: Torture Love – The Death
This new Post-Punk/New Wave project from Chicago really took me by surprise last year. While the recording is very lo-fi, it creates an atmosphere where you can swear you can hear some synths.
14. 44:31-47:31: Juicy J – Drugged Out
Lookin for the drug man with my drugs out.
15. 47:32-49:52: Macronympha – Fucking My Nurse in the Dark (Excerpt I)
Macronympha is crucial American Harsh Noise from the 1990s. Their use of metal and tape loops revivals no other.
16. 49:53-53:04: DJ Screw (UGK) – Pregnant Pussy
None of these Ableton screws compete with the original. DJ Screw will make you feel intoxicated regardless of your blood content.
17. 53:05-56:29: Macronympha – Fucking My Nurse in the Dark (Excerpt II)
18. 56:30-60:02: R. Kelly – Love Is
R. Kelly’s 2012 album “Write Me Back” quickly became one of my favorite albums of last year. This isn’t the ridiculous and dirty material Mr. Kelly is known for. It is something even better.”

SIDE B – DENNIS
1.) Reclamation by Fugazi (album- Steady Diet of Nothing) 0:00-3:20
I always felt that this should have been the opening track on this album. The way the bass and drums set up the groove over the guitars is amazing. Still wish I would have been able to see them live.
2.) Pattern against User by At the Drive-In (album- Relationship of Command) 3:20-6:36
This whole album has helped me stay awake on some very lat night drives.
3.) This You Can Trust by Dove (album – Self Titled) 6:36 – 8:45
Great Riffs!
4) Death Announcements and Funerals by Sigur Ros (album – Angels of the Universe) 6:36 – 13:08
This is my second favorite Sigur Ros song, but the song that drew me in. It’s still as mesmerizing today, as the first time I heard it.
5.) Immaculate Pinetreeroad #930 by Bathory (album- Octagon) 13:08 – 15:54
Not the most popular Bathory stuff, but to me, this is a great album. If someone asked me to describe this album to them, I would tell them that it is the musical equivalent to free falling in an elevator from 90 floors up.
6.) Omniscient by Black Cobra (album- Bestial) 15:54- 19:10
The riff in the middle, and end, of this song is one of my all time favorite riffs.
7.) Cold War by Death From Above 1979 (album- You’re a Women, I’m a Machine) 15:54 – 21:41
One of my favorite albums from my early 20s, and can still throw it on from start to finish.
8.) Dust Huntress by Del Rey (album- Darkness and Distance) 21:41 – 27:46
Great band from Chicago. Watching the two drummers pull off the fills in this song is amazing, and great chord progressions.
9.) This Mess we’re In (Solo Vocal Version) by PJ Harvey (album Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea: B Sides) 27:46 – 31:38
Always a huge fan of PJ Harvey. I got to witness, and about 3,000 other people, a solo version of this song on Sept 13, 2001 at the Riv in Chicago. Stunning doesn’t even beginning to describe that experience.
10.) The Lovers of Nothing by Riddle of Steel (album – Got this Feelin’) 31:38 – 35:16
So the next four songs set up a early 2000’s indie block to this mix. The Midwest had so many great indie bands in the early to mid 2000’s. (Not saying that there aren’t any now) It seemed as if you were going to see one band, you would almost always end up going home talking about another band on the bill, and most likely their merch. The drummer from Riddle of Steel went on to drum for Russian Circles. Great use of delay on the guitars in this song.
11.) Independence by Ring, Cicada (Album Good Morning, Mr. Good) 35:16 – 38:33
Another great Midwest band. Mostly an instrumental band, but had songs with vocals scattered here and there. Always put on a great show, and always had great live tone.
12.) I’m a Gal by Houston (album – Bottom of the Curve) 38:33 – 41:52
Another great band from this time, and always put on a great show.
13. Andalusia by Shiner (album – The Egg) 41:52 – 45:43
Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge Shiner fan. Luckily for me Shiner played a lot of Chicago shows. Not an instrumental band but, but this one kind of is, minus the vocals being used as an instrument to create a haunting keyboard-like effect. One of the best live bands I have ever seen.
14.) Thumper by The Jesus Lizard (album – Shot) 45:43 – 49:12
One of the greatest rhythm sections in a rock band ever. (Well, at least to me) and anyone who got to see a Jesus Lizard show knows that each show was an event.
15.) Army Of Me by Bjork (album –Post) 49:12 – 53:01
Not my favorite Bjork track, but it’s the one that got me in to her. (There’s a joke in there somewhere)
16.) Mysterons by Portishead (album- Roseland NYC [Live]) 53:01- 58:28
The thing that I have to keep reminding myself every time I listen to this album is that it’s a live album.
Very haunting sound, with a great performance.
17.) The Unattractive, Portable Head by Daughters (album- Self Titled) 58:28 – 1:02:00
This album is probably one of my favorite albums of the past couple of years, and this song sealed the deal. Huge pounding drums, crazy looped guitars, creepy as shit organ at the end, oh and hand claps….
